    A major grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has allowed the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America, Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University to launch the Long 19th Amendment Project, interrogating the centennial of American women's suffrage. As a part of this project, the inaugural Mellon-Schlesinger Research Grant competition is now open.

    The Schlesinger Library will award up to three Mellon-Schlesinger Summer Research Grants for eight-week residencies in June-July 2019 for researchers doing advanced work on gender and suffrage, voting rights, citizenship, or other related topics. The stipend for each award is $15,000.

    Currently enrolled graduate students are not eligible for these awards and should instead apply for Schlesinger Library's Dissertation Support Grants.

    The Department of History and Geography at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a visiting assistant professor in Native American history and public history to begin August 2018.

     

    Successful candidates will be expected to teach a 4:4 load at all levels of the graduate and undergraduate curriculum. Fall courses include two sections of US History to 1877, Intro to American Indian Studies (online), and Women in the American West. Spring courses include US History to 1877, American Indian History, Oklahoma History, and Public History. The ability to incorporate digital media and methods into both teaching and projects is highly desirable. Ph.D. expected by time of employment. Completing the university’s eLearning Facilitation Certification online course will be required prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

    The University of Oklahoma Libraries seeks applications and nominations for the position of Curator of the Western History Collections. The Curator will oversee a nationally significant collection of resources on the American West in an environment rich with partnerships and collaborative opportunities.  Reporting to the Associate Dean for Special Collections, University Libraries, the Curator leads and directs the Western History Collections (WHC), with particular responsibility for outreach to scholarly and other communities, the development of programing and exhibits, and the continued growth of the Collections through acquisitions via donation and purchase.     Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota invites applications for the 10-month position of Director or Coordinator of the McGovern Center for Community Engagement.  The McGovern Center for Community Engagement is charged with cultivating and sustaining opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community members to engage in service, social justice and civic engagement events, and activities both in and outside of the classroom.  Title and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

    The National Park Service seeks to work with up to 25 national, regional, and local partners to collaboratively conduct a variety of Cultural Resources and History research activities, including, but not limited to the named studies outlined in NPS-28: Cultural Resource Management Guideline.  This includes administrative histories, historic resource studies, NR and NHL nominations, special history studies, theme studies, historical and interpretive handbooks, oral histories; HABS/HAER/HALS documentation, archaeological assessments, ethnographic documentation, cultural landscape reports, scope of collections plans, etc.

    The WHA has an announcement from Keith Thor Carlson:

    The University of Saskatchewan has launched a new postdoctoral fellowship to promote both internationalization and Indigenization at the same time.  If you know of any freshly minted young scholars who are A) not Canadians and not residents of Canada, and B) working in Indigenous scholarship and who might be interested in coming to Canada and working with me, please encourage them to get in touch with me.     The Amon Carter Museum of American Art invites applications for the 2018/2019 Davidson Family Fellowship. The fellowship provides support for scholars holding a PhD (or equivalent) or PhD candidates to work on research projects in American art that advance scholarship by connecting with objects in the museum’s permanent collection. The stipend rate is $3,000 per month for a minimum one-month to a maximum four-month period of full-time research at the museum. 

    The application deadline is May 31, 2018, for a fellowship to begin on or after October 1, 2018, and end by September 30, 2019. Housing and travel expenses are to be managed and funded by the fellow.

    The University of Oklahoma Libraries Western History Collections (WHC) invites applications from established and emerging scholars for two newly-endowed research fellowships. The fellowships support research residencies in the Western History Collections and are designed to connect researchers to the rich archival, print and visual resources. 

    DEADLINE:  March 26, 2018

    The Masterson Fellowship, endowed by Conrad and Ellen Masterson of Cee Vee, Texas, provides opportunities for visiting scholars to conduct research in the Western History Collections for one to three months. The fellowship is open to advanced graduate students, faculty, or independent scholars engaged in an original research project of significant scholarly merit that will benefit directly from the utilization of materials in the Western History Collections. Several awards of one to three months will be made, and priority consideration for at least one fellowship line will be given to research on range management history, the impact of cattle ranching in the American West, or related topics. The stipend for the Masterson Fellowship is $2,500 per month.  Deadline for applicationsMarch 26, 2018 for consideration for summer 2018 fellowships; revolving thereafter.
