At its Spring 2025 meeting, the WHA Council voted to approve a motion to form an Ad Hoc Committee on Publications. The WHA's 2026 President, Anne Hyde, created the WHA Ad Hoc Committee on Publications and appointed members to it. The committee is charged with reporting to the WHA Council on a range of options for selecting future publishers of the Western Historical Quarterly (WHQ).

The ad hoc committee will provide a progress report at the WHA Council meeting at the OAH conference in Philadelphia in spring 2026. The final report is due to the WHA Executive Committee on August 31, 2026.
