    Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota invites applications for the 10-month position of Director or Coordinator of the McGovern Center for Community Engagement.  The McGovern Center for Community Engagement is charged with cultivating and sustaining opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community members to engage in service, social justice and civic engagement events, and activities both in and outside of the classroom.  Title and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

    The National Park Service seeks to work with up to 25 national, regional, and local partners to collaboratively conduct a variety of Cultural Resources and History research activities, including, but not limited to the named studies outlined in NPS-28: Cultural Resource Management Guideline.  This includes administrative histories, historic resource studies, NR and NHL nominations, special history studies, theme studies, historical and interpretive handbooks, oral histories; HABS/HAER/HALS documentation, archaeological assessments, ethnographic documentation, cultural landscape reports, scope of collections plans, etc.

    The WHA has an announcement from Keith Thor Carlson:

    The University of Saskatchewan has launched a new postdoctoral fellowship to promote both internationalization and Indigenization at the same time.  If you know of any freshly minted young scholars who are A) not Canadians and not residents of Canada, and B) working in Indigenous scholarship and who might be interested in coming to Canada and working with me, please encourage them to get in touch with me.     The Amon Carter Museum of American Art invites applications for the 2018/2019 Davidson Family Fellowship. The fellowship provides support for scholars holding a PhD (or equivalent) or PhD candidates to work on research projects in American art that advance scholarship by connecting with objects in the museum’s permanent collection. The stipend rate is $3,000 per month for a minimum one-month to a maximum four-month period of full-time research at the museum. 

    The application deadline is May 31, 2018, for a fellowship to begin on or after October 1, 2018, and end by September 30, 2019. Housing and travel expenses are to be managed and funded by the fellow.

    The University of Oklahoma Libraries Western History Collections (WHC) invites applications from established and emerging scholars for two newly-endowed research fellowships. The fellowships support research residencies in the Western History Collections and are designed to connect researchers to the rich archival, print and visual resources. 

    DEADLINE:  March 26, 2018

    The Masterson Fellowship, endowed by Conrad and Ellen Masterson of Cee Vee, Texas, provides opportunities for visiting scholars to conduct research in the Western History Collections for one to three months. The fellowship is open to advanced graduate students, faculty, or independent scholars engaged in an original research project of significant scholarly merit that will benefit directly from the utilization of materials in the Western History Collections. Several awards of one to three months will be made, and priority consideration for at least one fellowship line will be given to research on range management history, the impact of cattle ranching in the American West, or related topics. The stipend for the Masterson Fellowship is $2,500 per month.  Deadline for applicationsMarch 26, 2018 for consideration for summer 2018 fellowships; revolving thereafter.

    South Dakota State University's Great Plains Emerging Tribal Writer Award is now accepting applications. The $500 award aims to encourage the development of American Indian Writers. This award allows aspiring tribal writers to share their stories, culture, and heritage with a larger audience for the first time. 

    Last year's winner, Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre, shared her winning submission at SDSU's annual Consider the Century Conference. Since presenting at the conference, Jessie has published her winning submission, Pet'a Shows Misun the Light, with Mascot Books, sold more than 100 copies of her story, and presented at various venues across the state.

    The Mormon History Association is hiring an Executive Director. Please click here for more information. 

    The MHA Executive Director need not be a scholar of Mormon history, but should be able to enthusiastically support and publicly represent the organization’s mission, as well as interacting with the MHA membership which includes both professional historians and enthusiasts from a variety of religious backgrounds (or none at all).

    The Executive Director is an independent contractor who reports to the MHA President and Board of Directors while also working autonomously to provide day-to-day administration of MHA operations and programs and ensure that the organization is financially sound. The Executive Director also serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors.

    It is expected that the Executive Director’s term will commence on June 1, 2018. MHA currently does not have permanent office space; whether the Executive Director would work from home or require dedicated office space can be negotiated.

    The Evans Biography Awards encourage the best in research and writing about individuals who shaped the Interior West (defined for the awards as an expanded Great Basin and Rocky Mountain region, extending south into Chihuahua and Sonora, Mexico, and north into southern Alberta, Canada) through the awarding of two annual cash prizes for excellence in biography, autobiography, and memoir.

    The deadline for submission to the Evans Biography Awards is fast approaching. Books with a first publishing date in 2017 are due by February 21, 2018

    The detailed award criteria and submission information can be found on the Mountain West Center website at www.mountainwest.usu.edu.

    If you have a book that fits the criteria we encourage you to apply or if you know of a book, please email the Mountain West Center at mwc@usu.edu so that we may contact the publisher for submission.
